Sony has not decided on a price or when to launch the PS6

Sony Denies Rumors of PlayStation 6 Launch

Sony has dismissed any speculation about a possible release of the PlayStation 6 during their recent earnings call. President and CEO Hiroki Totoki stated, “We have not yet determined the timing or pricing for the new console.” The decision is influenced by the current high costs of RAM and components, with expectations of continued price hikes in the future due to supply shortages.

Totoki confirmed that there will be no price increases for the PlayStation 5 for the remainder of 2026, as Sony has secured the necessary materials at agreed-upon prices. However, details about the PS6 remain uncertain, with ongoing rumors suggesting advanced specs such as Custom AMD Zen 6 architecture, RDNA 5 graphics, and 32GB of DDR7 RAM.

While the PS6 is rumored to be codenamed Orion and feature cutting-edge technology, including built-in AI upscaling and neural arrays, its release date is now speculated to be around 2027 or 2028. Additionally, there are whispers about a second console project called Project Canis, a handheld device with backward compatibility for PS4 and PS5 games.

As speculations continue to circulate, it’s evident that Sony is taking a cautious approach to launching a new console given the volatile market conditions. With the future of gaming uncertain, only time will tell what the PlayStation 6 will truly offer.
