The Pines asks what would Alan Wake look like if it was about therapy, and I kind of want to know the answer

Exploring The Pines: A Psychological Horror RPG

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but that doesn’t mean our favorite gruff fictional detective couldn’t benefit from it. Enter The Pines, a game with vibes reminiscent of Alan Wake, yet with its own intriguing twist. The protagonist, Edward Walker, finds himself in the secluded town of The Pines, a retreat promising quiet, recovery, and on-site therapists. But beneath the surface lies a hint of something sinister, echoing the likes of Alan Wake and Twin Peaks.

Described as an open-world psychological horror RPG, The Pines allows players to interact with quirky locals while engaging in detective work to solve puzzles. The game introduces a unique “stalker” system, where your actions can lead to consequences such as being haunted by a resident turned stalker. This intriguing mechanic adds a layer of unpredictability, similar to Shadow of Mordor’s nemesis system and Silent Hill 4’s persistent victims. How will therapy play a role in all of this? Only time will tell.

While a release date for The Pines is yet to be announced, interested players can wishlist the game on Steam. Stay tuned for updates on this captivating blend of psychological horror and RPG elements.
