Apple has posted a new support document urging users to update to the latest iOS versions to safeguard their iPhones from web attacks.
Malicious links and compromised websites
“Security researchers have recently discovered web-based attacks that target older versions of iOS through malicious web content,” the support document states.
“For instance, if you are using an outdated iOS version and click on a malicious link or visit a compromised site, your iPhone’s data could be vulnerable to theft,” the company warns.
Apple has thoroughly investigated these issues and promptly released software updates for the latest operating system versions to address vulnerabilities and thwart such attacks.
Earlier this month, Apple rolled out security updates for older iPhones and iPads running iOS 15 and iOS 16.
Critical Security Update incoming
Apple advises devices running iOS 13 and iOS 14 to update to iOS 15 to receive these protections and will receive an additional alert to install a Critical Security Update in the coming days.
iOS 26.3.1 is the most recent public version of iOS. Apple continues to update iOS 18, with iOS 18.7.6 released this month.
Older devices incapable of running iOS 18 or later should be on iOS 15.8.7 and iOS 16.7.15 to receive the latest security updates.
Apple also introduced the first Background Security Improvement for multiple devices this week.
