Quest Reached Record Number of Users in 2025, Pushing 100 VR Apps Over $1M in Gross Revenue

Meta’s Director of Games Reveals Record Quest Usage in 2025

In a recent State of VR talk at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Meta’s Director of Games, Chris Pruett, shared some exciting news regarding the company’s Quest platform. Pruett announced that Quest usage had reached an all-time high in 2025, leading to over 100 games generating more than $1 million in gross revenue.

Pruett highlighted that not only had Quest usage seen year-over-year growth, but the revenue from the Horizon Store also experienced a slight increase compared to the previous year. He mentioned that despite the overall games industry only growing by 1%, the gross revenue from the Meta Horizon Store showed a similar upward trend.

According to Pruett, the fact that 2025 did not have a hardware launch like the previous year makes the revenue growth even more significant. He explained that maintaining revenue levels in a non-launch year is a positive sign that ongoing investments in the store are paying off.

Pruett also discussed the revenue drivers on the platform, noting that premium app sales remain the largest source of income. However, in-app purchases (IAP) saw significant growth in 2025, increasing by over 10%. This trend indicates a diversification of monetization strategies and more widespread success among titles.

Regarding gross revenue, Pruett revealed that over 100 titles surpassed $1 million in revenue in 2025. While he didn’t specify the most successful monetization models, he did mention that subscription revenue plays a minor role in the ecosystem and is mostly unrelated to video games.

Some of the successful games on the platform include UG, a free-to-play title popular among teens, HARD BULLET, a physics-based shooter priced at $20, and The Thrill of the Fight 2, a realistic boxing simulator also priced at $20.

Despite recent studio closures and layoffs, Pruett assured that Oculus Publishing will release more games this year, following the shipment of over 140 games in the previous year.
