Report: A Bloodborne remake is unlikely at present

The Mystery Behind the Unmade Bloodborne Remake by Bluepoint Games

The recent closure of Bluepoint Games has sparked speculation about why they were never given the opportunity to remake Bloodborne for the PS5. Many fans were eager for this remake, considering it a perfect match for the studio. So, what prevented it from happening?

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Bluepoint did propose a Bloodborne remake in 2025. However, they were informed that although the numbers made sense, FromSoftware, the original game’s developer, did not want the remake to proceed.

In a previous interview, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida hinted at this, suggesting that FromSoftware’s president, Hidetaka Miyazaki, may have entertained the idea of expanding the Bloodborne universe with a remake. However, Miyazaki’s busy schedule and desire to maintain creative control over the franchise may have hindered the project.

Despite Sony’s ownership of Bloodborne, they seem hesitant to move forward with a remake without FromSoftware’s approval. With the success of FromSoftware’s latest title, Elden Ring, and their upcoming exclusive game, The Duskbloods, Sony likely aims to keep the developer content for potential future collaborations.

Notably, Bloodborne continues to perform well in sales, with nearly 2 million units sold between February 2022 and November 2025, marking a decade since its initial release.

Prior to their closure, Bluepoint was working on a live service game set in the God of War universe, focusing on Atreus navigating the Underworld. Unfortunately, this project was scrapped in early 2025, along with another undisclosed live service game from Sony Bend Studios.

For gamers looking for live service experiences, Sony offers titles like Marathon and Horizon Hunters Gathering, with the upcoming release of Fairgame$, an extraction shooter that may rival Marathon’s player base.
