SlimeVR Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for Next-Gen ‘Butterfly’ Body Trackers
SlimeVR has recently announced its latest crowdfunding campaign, aiming to introduce its next-generation ‘Butterfly’ body trackers. These new trackers boast a sleeker design, lighter weight, and longer battery life compared to their predecessors.
The crowdfunding campaign for the Butterfly Trackers quickly surpassed its initial funding goal of $180,000 after launching on February 9th, with over $347,000 raised from nearly 760 backers.
Similar to the highly successful SlimeVR Full-Body Tracker, which raised over $9 million in 2021, the Butterfly Trackers offer IMU-based body tracking technology that enables VR users to enhance their avatar movements without the need for external sensors or base stations. This makes them ideal for activities like motion capture and VTubing.
The Butterfly Trackers utilize the same tracking technology and ICM-45686 IMU chip as their predecessors, ensuring consistent tracking quality and long drift reset times. However, the key innovation lies in the incorporation of a custom 2.4 GHz dongle instead of Wi-Fi, resulting in a more compact design, lighter weight, and extended battery life. Each tracker can now last up to 48 hours on a single charge, doubling the battery life of the original Full-Body Trackers.
Additionally, the slim and lightweight design of the Butterfly Trackers introduces new attachment methods, including straps, clips, and iron-on patches.

All SlimeVR trackers are compatible with standalone headsets such as Meta Quest, Pico, or Steam Frame, as well as any headset utilizing SteamVR.
The campaign’s entry-level backer tier, the ‘Core Set Bundle,’ offers six Butterfly Trackers for $279, with an estimated shipping date of August 31st, 2026. According to SlimeVR, this bundle is sufficient for tracking the position and rotation of the hips, knees, chest, and the position (not rotation) of the feet.
