Horizon Hunters Gathering is Guerrilla’s new co-op action game

Horizon Hunters Gathering: Guerrilla Games Announces Multiplayer Spin-Off

Guerrilla Games has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Horizon Zero Dawn multiplayer spin-off, Horizon Hunters Gathering, for PS5 and PC. Players can now sign up for playtests to experience the game firsthand.

Despite the game title sounding like a location descriptor for a breakdown service, Horizon Hunters Gathering actually refers to a group of elite hunters joining forces to combat corrupted machines across various lands.

The game features a more vibrant and cartoony art style, a deliberate choice by studio director Jan-Bart van Beek to complement the dynamic co-op action gameplay. According to van Beek, the combat mechanics are tailored for team play, hence the energetic art style.

While the animated reveal trailer showcases some quirky elements, the actual gameplay retains a balance between zippy special abilities and the grounded tone of Aloy’s original adventures. Some fans may miss the visual style of the single-player games, but the multiplayer experience offers a refreshing change.

Horizon Hunters Gathering allows teams of up to three players to strategize and adapt to different character dynamics. The game features two main modes: Machine Incursion, where players must battle waves of machines and a final boss within a time limit, and Cauldron Descent, a longer mission with puzzles and hidden challenges.

After completing missions, players can regroup at the Hunters Gathering social hub to upgrade gear and prepare for the next adventure. The game structure is reminiscent of titles like Monster Hunter, offering a unique blend of cooperative gameplay and individual progression.

Interested players can participate in close playtests through the PlayStation Beta Program, with a limited selection of three characters to choose from on both PS5 and PC.
