Exchanging your old iPhone for a new one? Apple just revised its trade-in rates

Apple has recently adjusted the trade-in rates for older iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. This revision marks the first change in 2026 and the third since the launch of the iPhone 17 in September 2025. The exchange values for most products have decreased, particularly for the newer models, while older models seem to hold their value better.

For example, the trade-in value for an iPhone 16 Pro Max has dropped from $700 in September 2025 to $670 in November, and it now stands at $650, as reported by Macrumors.

Newer iPhones are losing value faster

Similarly, the trade-in value for the baseline iPhone 16 has decreased from $450 in September 2025 to $410 in January 2026, representing a 9% decline. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has experienced an even greater decrease, dropping from $630 to $450 over the past year.

Apple’s trade-in values are declining due to a higher volume of returned devices entering the refurbishment and resale pipeline. Despite this trend, it’s important to monitor these values as they can impact the resale market and upgrade ecosystem.
