Recent reports suggest that Ubisoft has finally settled on a name for their long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. A domain has been registered with the name “Black Flag Resynced,” hinting at what’s to come.
The domain registration, done by a company previously used by Ubisoft for other game registrations, including the latest Prince of Persia title, took place just 25 days ago. While Ubisoft has hinted at diving into their back catalogue for remakes and remasters, they have yet to officially announce this particular remake. Nevertheless, numerous details have already surfaced.
The remake, powered by the Anvil Pipeline engine, is expected to bring some significant changes. Most notably, all modern-day sequences will be removed, meaning characters like Rebecca and Shaun will not make an appearance. The modern-day storyline, which was prominent in earlier games but has since taken a backseat, will be replaced with “a few extra hours of content,” including cut portions of Mary Read’s story.
Gameplay will reportedly adopt a more RPG-style approach seen in recent games, featuring loot, weapon stats, and a new inventory system. Combat will also lean towards the style of more recent titles. The map size remains the same but will offer more activities, with seamless transitions between sailing and land exploration due to modern loading systems.
A report from Jeux Vidéo Magazine suggests a potential early 2026 release, possibly in March, slightly later than previously rumored. Ubisoft studios in Singapore, Belgrade, and Bordeaux are said to be working on the project, with the possibility of reusing assets from Skull & Bones to cut costs.
