With little fanfare, Helldivers 2’s creative director shares that Arrowhead are prototyping a roguelite mode

I believe that Twitter is not the appropriate platform for sharing important information in a casual manner. It should be used for more light-hearted updates, such as “just downloaded some MP3s to my iPod Touch,” rather than revealing significant news like Arrowhead testing a roguelite mode in Helldivers 2, as shared by the game’s creative director Johan Pilestedt today.

Pilestedt made this announcement in a simple manner, responding to a suggestion about a roguelike mode with, “Hey! We have a prototype of a rogue-lite mode – it changes the game fundamentally!” However, by sharing this information, Pilestedt may now face constant inquiries about the mode’s release, even though he has not disclosed any further details and may not do so until it is finalized.

It is important to note that this live service game has faced challenges recently, with a major update in October addressing over 200 bugs and performance issues that had hindered the addition of new content and features. Therefore, if the roguelite mode does become available, it may take some time to be fully implemented.

Despite these challenges, Arrowhead has made progress, including reducing the game’s file size from 154GB to 23GB in a recent update, which is great news for players with limited storage space.
