Great news for fans of Ubisoft’s racing game, The Crew! Thanks to the dedication of modders, The Crew has been saved from a potential shutdown in 2029. The team behind The Crew Unlimited, a server emulator project, discovered a bug that would have rendered the game unplayable after a certain date. Fortunately, they have managed to find a solution to this critical issue.
Lead developer Whammy4 shared the importance of the latest update, version 1.3.0.0, stating that the team realized the game would stop working if the PC’s date was set past June 2029. The discovery raised concerns, but after thorough investigation, they identified the problem within the game client itself, possibly linked to the Summit calendar system or the daily Crate mission system. Despite the challenges, the team implemented a temporary fix named “Y29K” on the server emulator to prevent the game from crashing.
While the current solution is described as less than ideal, it has successfully averted a major crisis. The developers acknowledge that further work may be required to find a more permanent fix. Hopefully, The Crew can now enjoy a stable future without facing existential threats, sparking important discussions on the future of online-only game services.
