Huion Kamvas Slate 11 Review – 11” Android-Based Drawing Tablet for £240

I have been using the Huion Kamvas Slate 11 for a few weeks now, and it presents an intriguing option in the drawing tablet market. Priced at around £240, this standalone Android drawing tablet is positioned as an affordable choice for digital artists who want portability without the need for a computer connection.

The key feature of the Huion Kamvas Slate 11 is its independence, running on Android 14 and functioning on its own without the need for a PC or Mac. I was curious to see if it could deliver a satisfactory drawing experience at this price point, or if there would be significant compromises.

Unfortunately, during the initial set-up of the tablet, I encountered a “dm-verity corruption” error, which stated that the device could not be trusted. Although I eventually managed to get past this and set up the tablet, the error reappeared upon rebooting. Despite searching for similar issues online, I could not find any reports, leading me to believe it was an isolated incident.

Moving past the set-up problems, the tablet’s design and build quality impressed me, especially considering its price point. The aluminum back feels premium and sturdy, and the portability of the tablet is remarkable. The display, while not the sharpest, offers a decent drawing experience, though it suffers from dimness and poor viewing angles.

The drawing experience on the Huion Kamvas Slate 11 is adequate for casual use, but it has some drawbacks. The pen input requires a high activation force, resulting in difficulties with light strokes and subtle details. Line quality can be inconsistent, and palm rejection is not always reliable.

In terms of performance, the tablet handles basic drawing tasks well, but struggles with more complex projects. The battery life is impressive, lasting about 8-10 hours of mixed use. The tablet’s gaming performance is decent for casual games, but struggles with more demanding titles.

Overall, the Huion Kamvas Slate 11 offers a portable and affordable option for digital artists looking for a standalone drawing tablet. While it has its limitations, such as display quality and pen performance, it provides good value for beginners and casual users. Experienced artists may find the compromises more noticeable, especially when compared to higher-priced competitors.
