Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow sneaks out on December 4th

Maze Theory recently announced the upcoming launch of Thief VR: Legacy of Shadows on December 4th, along with the release of two gameplay videos. One video showcases the game running on PSVR 2, while the other shows it running on Meta Quest. Both videos feature the same sequence, allowing viewers to compare the two versions.

The game description for Thief VR: Legacy of Shadows reads, “The City is a place of shadows, ruled by the tyrant Lord Ulysses Northcrest. You are Magpie, a cunning thief orphaned by Northcrest’s cruelty, surviving through theft. However, your life changes when you stumble upon a legendary artifact with a mysterious past. Utilize immersive VR mechanics to steal, evade, and outsmart the oppressive forces of The City. Uncover its dark secrets and reveal a sinister conspiracy that threatens its very existence.”

In a blog post on the PlayStation Blog, Steven Gallagher (Creative Director at Eidos-Montréal) mentioned that this is not the first venture into creating a Thief game in VR. He shared, “Towards the end of Thief (2014), Eidos-Montréal attempted to develop a playable VR demo for Sony’s Project Morpheus, the early version of PlayStation VR,” Steven disclosed. “However, our lack of experience in VR development at that time resulted in a somewhat challenging gameplay experience.”

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadows will offer non-linear levels, granting players freedom in how they approach various scenarios. Success in the game relies heavily on stealth and strategic thievery, as combat is not the primary focus. Players will need to meticulously plan their routes and actions to execute heists effectively.
