Most sources suggest that an “iPhone Fold” could be released in late 2026 or early 2027, although delays are possible due to the complexity of this new form factor.
While Samsung, Google, and Motorola have already launched folding smartphones, Apple has yet to enter the market. Given its strong market position and loyal customer base, an iPhone Fold could create excitement and boost demand for foldable phones. Samsung Display’s CEO, Lee Cheong, may have inadvertently confirmed the rumors about the iPhone Fold. During an event in Seoul, South Korea, Cheong mentioned preparing for mass production of foldable OLEDs for a “North American customer,” widely believed to be Apple.
Rumors suggest that the foldable iPhone could be around 9mm thick when folded, similar to two stacked iPhone Air models. When unfolded, it may slim down to approximately 4.5mm, making it thinner than the current iPhone models. Durability will be a crucial factor, as the device will need to withstand numerous hinge cycles.
The unfolded display of the iPhone Fold could measure 7.8 inches, larger than the screen of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If Apple delivers on its promises, the foldable iPhone could offer a unique hybrid experience, combining portability with a larger screen size akin to an iPad.
