I previously reviewed the Daan Tech Bob Mini Dishwasher in November 2020 and was surprised by the high demand for countertop dishwashers.
At that time, the Daan Tech Bob Mini was one of the smallest and most visually appealing options available. However, Loch Electronics recently sent me their Capsule Solo dishwasher, which also boasts an attractive design. What sets it apart is its tall and narrow build, which allows it to occupy less counter space compared to other alternatives.
Here are some key specifications and features of the Loch Capsule Solo dishwasher:
– Capacity: 25 items, extendable to 35 with the Dual Tray (sold separately)
– Dimensions: W26.2 × H46.5 × D51.5 cm
– Materials: Stainless steel interior, BPA-free plastic exterior
– Water usage: 2.6 L per quick wash
– Wash cycles: 7, including Eco, Glass, Gentle, Daily, Quick, Intensive, and Fruit/Veg Wash
– Sanitization: 75 °C (167 °F)
– Drying: Active fan-assisted drying
– Water source: Clean water tank
– Waste water: Drainage to sink or an additional Water Tank (sold separately)
– Noise level: 60 dB
– Portability: Top handle, optional Travel Bag
– Safety features: Slow steam release, no auto-opening door for child and pet safety
– Sustainability: Energy rating of E in the UK/EU and Energy Star certified in the US
In terms of design, the Loch Capsule Solo stands out for its compact footprint. Unlike other compact dishwashers, which tend to be wider and deeper, the Capsule Solo’s slim design allows it to fit into tight spaces. The build quality is commendable, with a robust stainless steel interior and a sturdy external finish. However, the white plastic casing may not appeal to everyone.
Loading the dishwasher is straightforward, with adjustable racks for pans and plates. The cutlery tray, though functional, has a tendency to tip or move when loading heavier items.
Setting up the Capsule Solo is simple as it does not require plumbing. You just need to position it, fill the clean water tank, and attach the waste exit to a sink or optional tank. The control panel lights can be a bit dim and challenging to read in bright sunlight or under direct spotlights.
During my testing, the cleaning performance of the Capsule Solo was consistent across most wash cycles. The quick wash cycle, which lasts 15 minutes, is best suited for lightly soiled items. The Eco, Daily, and Intensive washes effectively cleaned even dried-on food. The dishwasher accepts standard dishwasher tablets, powder, and liquid, offering cost savings and convenience.
The Fruit/Veg Wash cycle, which primarily uses cold water, was useful for cleaning certain produce but may require pre-scrubbing for root vegetables. Drying is the dishwasher’s weak point, as the fan-assisted system leaves some items damp. The 60dB noise level is noticeable but not disruptive.
In terms of pricing and alternatives, the Loch Capsule Solo is priced at £350, while the standard Capsule is priced at £400. Compared to other options on Amazon, the Capsule Solo’s narrower design sets it apart from wider alternatives that take up more counter space.
Overall, the Loch Capsule Solo is a well-designed and practical countertop dishwasher that offers strong cleaning performance in a compact, narrow footprint. It is ideal for small kitchens, campervans, or boats. While it may not be the quietest or have the best drying capabilities, its use of standard detergent and easy setup make it a flexible option compared to its rivals.
