If I went to hell, I can’t imagine the first thing on my mind would be trying to pull off a bank job with a crew of fellow damned souls. However, in the newly announced tactical RPG Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists, that’s exactly what you’ll be doing, with plenty of choice and consequence if things go awry.
Thousand Hells is the latest project from A Sharp, the developers behind Six Ages and King of Dragon Pass. While they are once again partnering with Kitfox Games as the publisher, this game takes a different direction by exploring new fantasy realms inspired by ancient myths from various cultures, along with a touch of Hieronymus Bosch’s art.
“I’d like to push procedural storytelling in a new direction, both in how the quests are generated and with the narrative game that lets you use your team’s traits to resolve situations by making story choices, not just dice rolls,” said A Sharp founder David Dunham. “And it’s fun to see the system that Robin Laws and I designed put to use by other writers.”
Thousand Hells follows four procedurally generated heroes on a journey to hell, each with their own fears, desires, and personalities. Your goal is to assemble a team with diverse skills and temperaments to navigate the challenges of the underworld. With a “mysterious ambassador” overseeing your mission, the stakes are high.
The game features over 200 unique dynamic narrative encounters where your party’s skills evolve based on their successes and failures. Whether it’s calming bandits with a bard or communicating with a possessed book using a demonologist, your strategic choices will determine the outcome. Failure could result in serious consequences, so choose wisely.
Thousand Hells promises a thrilling gameplay experience with its diverse characters and surreal art style. Fans of A Sharp’s previous work, such as Six Ages, will find this game to be a must-play. Keep an eye out for the release date and wishlist it on Steam.
