A minor yet frustrating alteration in iOS 26 beta has been causing annoyance for Mail app users since June. Luckily, with the release of beta 5, Apple has reversed this change, preventing further complaints.
The issue? In iOS 26 beta 1 through 4, users had to perform an additional tap to enter select mode and choose multiple emails for actions like marking as read or archiving. While this may seem insignificant, the feedback highlighted a growing trend of hiding primary controls behind “…” buttons.
As of iOS 26 beta 5, the “Select” button has been returned to its rightful place at the top of the Mail app’s list view.

The “…” button remains for accessing various controls related to the Mail app’s appearance. However, it was illogical to hide an essential control like Select behind a menu primarily focused on visual adjustments.
With the addition of the option to change the swipe direction for mode switching in the Camera app, iOS 26 beta 5 proves to be a welcomed update for users who have been providing feedback on such issues since June.
