Apple stops signing iOS 18.5, blocking downgrade from iOS 18.6

Apple recently released iOS 18.6, which has been running smoothly without any issues. As a result, Apple has now stopped signing the previous iOS 18.5 software version.

When it comes to security concerns, Apple stops signing older versions of iOS after newer software versions have been released to address and fix any vulnerabilities that may exist.

iOS 18.6 was rolled out on July 29 and included bug fixes, security enhancements, and a resolution for a performance issue affecting the Photos app’s Memories feature. Additionally, there was a modification in how third-party app marketplaces are managed in the EU.

Apple also provided a detailed list of security enhancements that were implemented in iOS 18.6.

For devices that are unable to run iOS 18, Apple released iOS 17.7.9 on the same day. With this update, Apple has ceased signing iOS 17.7.8 to prevent users from downgrading to older versions.
