During the recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced that Vision Pro will soon support the PSVR 2 Sense controllers with the upcoming release of visionOS 26 this Fall. In an exclusive preview, popular YouTuber ‘Nathie’ had the opportunity to test out the controllers and showcase their functionality.
In the demonstration, Nathie navigates through Vision Pro’s interface using the PSVR 2 Sense controllers, highlighting features such as app browsing and previewing new content on VisionOS 26. The controllers offer a seamless experience, allowing users to interact with the system using a combination of eye-tracking and physical input.
While exploring the new features of VisionOS 26, including spatial Widgets, volumetric photos, and enhanced Persona avatars, Nathie points out the absence of apps designed specifically to utilize the Sense controllers for precise and responsive input. This is a shift from Apple’s initial focus on creating a ‘spatial computer’ geared towards productivity and communication.
With rumors circulating about Apple’s plans for a new XR headset, it seems that the company is expanding its horizons to accommodate a wider range of applications and games that require accurate input methods. This shift could potentially attract developers to create immersive experiences such as shooters, rhythm games, physical simulations, and more.
Despite the advancements in technology, the high price point of the Vision Pro headset has limited its adoption, with reports suggesting only 500,000 units sold to date. This pales in comparison to competitors like Meta Quest 3/S, which have a larger user base.
Looking ahead, speculation arises about a possible ‘Vision Pro 2’ release that could offer improved affordability and accessibility to accessories like the Sense controllers. As of now, acquiring the controllers may require purchasing a complete PSVR 2 bundle or seeking them out second-hand.
