Resident Evil 9 returns to Raccoon City, coming next February

Resident Evil Requiem: A Closer Look

Something to look forward to: This year’s Summer Game Fest presentation ended with a reveal trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline title in the iconic survival horror series by Capcom. Set to launch on PC and current-generation consoles in a few months, details about the game remain scarce.

While gameplay specifics are yet to be unveiled, the initial trailer focuses on the narrative, characters, and settings of Resident Evil Requiem. The game appears to draw heavily from its franchise history, likely in honor of the 30th anniversary of the original Resident Evil’s release in 1996.

The trailer prominently features the ruins of Raccoon City, hinting at a revisit to the location of the series’ early installments. Scenes depict the decaying remains of the city’s police station, resembling layouts from the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3.

Another key aspect revealed is the protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of a character from the 2003 multiplayer spin-off, Resident Evil Outbreak.

The game’s website hints at technological advancements, suggesting a showcase of the latest iteration of Capcom’s RE Engine, known for its realism and performance since its debut with Resident Evil 7 in 2017.

Recent titles using the RE Engine, such as Dragon’s Dogma II and Monster Hunter Wilds, have been demanding due to their expansive open-world environments, leading to speculation about a potential shift in gameplay structure for the upcoming Resident Evil title.

With a rumored move towards open-world gameplay, fans are intrigued by the possibility of exploring a ruined cityscape in Resident Evil Requiem, offering a departure from the series’ traditional isolated locations.

Upcoming Games

Other exciting game reveals include Atomic Heart II, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, Dying Light: The Beast, and more, with additional titles expected to be announced during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase 2025.

Mark your calendars as Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, arriving on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles.
