Assetto Corsa EVO made its debut earlier this year in early access, offering a PC VR mode that initially faced criticism due to subpar optimization. However, the game’s developer, KUNOS Simulazioni, has now rolled out the 0.2 update, which includes much-needed VR performance enhancements.
The latest update for Assetto Corsa EVO introduces a range of new content, such as seven new cars: Maserati GT2, Lotus Exige V6 Cup, Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA, Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione, Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6, Mazda MX-5, and Honda NSX-R. Additionally, two new tracks have been added: Circuit of the Americas (COTA) and Donington Park.
Players can now enjoy both single player ‘Open Mode’ for unrestricted access to all game cars and a single player ‘Career Mode’ that features game economy and progression mechanics.
The 0.2 update focuses on improving VR support, with enhancements tailored for PC VR headset users, including:
- VR TV camera set
- Mirror capture mode defaults to “dynamic” in VR
- Real-time changes to video settings
- Enhanced reflections
- DLSS integration
- New global grass type
- Fixed black glitch on the horizon
- Idle-screensaver sequence disabled in VR
Furthermore, the patch notes for version 0.2 state that “switching to VR or triple screen mode no longer disables DLSS,” streamlining the transition between flat screen and VR gameplay.
While demanding a high-end setup to run smoothly on PC VR, Assetto Corsa EVO seems to be heading in the right direction in terms of performance improvements. A comparison of graphics between the previous 0.16 version and the latest 0.2 build can be seen above, courtesy of ‘HYPEVR TV’.
KUNOS Simulazioni has outlined plans for six early access updates before the game’s full 1.0 release in Fall 2025. These updates are expected to further refine the gameplay experience, making the VR mode well worth the $32 price tag.
