During a fireside chat at Meta’s LlamaCon conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that 20%-30% of code within the company’s repositories was AI-generated. This came as a response to a question from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the extent of AI-generated code at Microsoft. Nadella noted that progress in AI-generated code varied across different programming languages, with Python showing more advancement compared to C++.
Looking ahead, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott has predicted that by 2030, a staggering 95% of all code will be AI-generated. Interestingly, when asked about the extent of AI-generated code at Meta, Zuckerberg admitted he was unsure.
On a separate note, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned during the company’s recent earnings call that over 30% of Google’s code is currently being generated by AI. However, the exact criteria used by Microsoft and Google to determine what constitutes AI-generated code remains unclear, so these figures should be interpreted cautiously.
