If you’re not familiar with Apple TV+’s The Studio, now’s the time to give it a watch.
Co-created by the dynamic duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, The Studio delves into the chaotic, humorous, and sometimes cringy world of Matt Remick (played by Rogen) as he navigates his new role as president of Continental Studios.
For Matt, this promotion is a dream come true. He’s always had a passion for film – the classic kind that true cinephiles adore. While his vision is admirable, Matt often struggles with executing it properly.
Despite gaining recognition for his work on the MK Ultra superhero franchise, Matt yearns to create authentic, meaningful films rather than blockbuster movies. However, his fears of going against his superiors hold him back from pursuing his true artistic desires.
The Studio maintains the fast-paced, frenetic energy characteristic of a Goldberg/Rogen production. Each episode presents a new challenge, usually stemming from Matt’s own actions. While Matt occasionally veers into “I’m just like you!” territory with his colleagues, his charm – uniquely portrayed by Rogen – saves his character from becoming unlikable.
Amidst an industry shifting towards IP-driven blockbusters, The Studio arrives at a pertinent moment. The conversations Matt has with his team (featuring Kathryn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders, Ike Barinholtz, and Dewayne Perkins) mirror real-life discussions in Hollywood today.

The show also serves as a love letter to the film industry – imperfect yet endearing. Filled with guest appearances by exaggerated versions of themselves, The Studio strikes a balance between expected and surprising cameos, adding to its charm.
It remains to be seen whether The Studio will appeal to a broad audience or cater to a niche group familiar with industry intricacies. Regardless, it’s worth giving it a chance and supporting the arts. The Studio offers an enjoyable viewing experience and stands out among the current streaming landscape.
The Studio releases new episodes every Wednesday on Apple TV+. You can subscribe for just £2.99/$2.99 per month for the first three months.
