Development for The Witcher 4 is in its “most intensive” phase, but fans will have to wait until at least 2027 for its release. During a financial call, the developer announced that the game won’t be launching before the end of 2026, disappointing eager players.
The earnings call was filled with graphs and numbers, but executives confirmed that the anticipated RPG won’t be released early, as reported by PC Gamer.
CD Projekt Red’s CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, stated, “We are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet. The game will not be launched by December 31, 2026.”
Additionally, the studio revealed that they won’t be using generative AI due to potential legal issues, especially concerning copyright.
Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski mentioned, “We have nothing happening when it comes to Witcher 4 or any projects in the near future” regarding the implementation of gen AI in games.
While AI may be considered for future projects, the recent trailer confirmed that Ciri will be the main protagonist in The Witcher 4, exploring themes of sexism in the fantasy world. The popular in-universe card game Gwent will also make a return.
