The PlayStation Network (PSN) has successfully recovered from an outage that lasted nearly a day. The disruption began on Friday evening, affecting account management, gaming and social features, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and the PlayStation Direct website, as indicated on the status page during that time. Specifically for gaming, Sony acknowledged that users may experience difficulties launching games, apps, or utilizing network features.
As of 7:28PM ET on Friday, a colleague encountered issues loading purchased digital games, viewing friends, trophies, and online status on their PS5. Later that night at 11:45PM ET, attempts to play Fortnite on a PS5 resulted in an error message preventing login. However, access to a digital copy of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was successful.
According to Sony’s status website, issues arose at 7PM ET, although Downdetector began receiving user reports around 6PM ET. At its peak, Downdetector recorded just under 70,000 problem reports.
Requests for comment from Sony went unanswered.
Update, February 8th: Sony has confirmed that services are now restored.
