Exciting Updates on Warcraft Player Housing
World of Warcraft recently shared more details about their highly anticipated player housing feature, which was first announced last year. The latest information gives players insight into what to expect, as well as what not to expect compared to other games.
The key points of the reveal include an overview of the design principles or “pillars” guiding the development of this feature. These pillars reflect Blizzard’s commitment to creating an experience that will resonate with all fans:
- Boundless Self-Expression
- Deeply Social
- Long-Lasting Journey
When it comes to “Boundless Self-Expression,” Blizzard aims to provide players with extensive customization options for their housing, ensuring a high level of personalization. This stands in contrast to the more limited customization seen in the garrisons of Warlords of Draenor.
Under the “Deeply Social” pillar, players will have the opportunity to place their homes in player-created “neighborhoods,” whether faction-based or established by friends and guildmates.
Lastly, the goal is for housing to be a “Long-Lasting Journey,” with Blizzard envisioning it as an ongoing feature that players can continually engage with: “Housing isn’t something players should expect to ‘finish,’ but instead continually look forward to the next housing release.”
To address concerns, Blizzard took a subtle dig at Final Fantasy XIV and its restrictive housing system. Unlike Final Fantasy XIV, which employs lotteries and high purchase costs, Blizzard ensures that Player Housing in World of Warcraft will be accessible to all players without exorbitant requirements or upkeep.
As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we wanted to ensure that Housing is available to everyone. If you want a house, you can have a house. No exorbitant requirements or high purchase costs, no lotteries, and no onerous upkeep (and if your subscription lapses, don’t worry, your house doesn’t get repossessed!).
In contrast, the housing market in Final Fantasy XIV is known for its exclusivity and scarcity, with houses being sold through lotteries and at risk of demolition if players don’t log in frequently enough.
While a release date for Player Housing in World of Warcraft has not been confirmed, fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival, possibly in the upcoming expansion Midnight.
