E-bikes are amazing, but they can be quite pricey compared to regular bicycles and are often heavier as well. Additionally, they may require maintenance and can experience technical issues. However, what if you could transform your traditional bike into an e-bike? This is where the Livall PikaBoost comes in, now in its second iteration. It is essentially a compact, motorized device that can be attached to your bike to provide it with e-bike capabilities.
I had the opportunity to explore the PikaBoost 2 at CES 2025. Livall’s PR agency, WeBranding, flew me to Las Vegas for CES 2025 to personally experience the PikaBoost 2, along with other devices from their brands — and I must say, it appears to be an efficient and cost-effective way to enjoy the benefits of an e-bike without having to replace your current bicycle.

The PikaBoost 2 attaches to the back of your bike frame, extending towards the rear tire, provided the tire is between 23mm and 32mm in width. It features a rubber wheel at the end that rotates your tire when activated, eliminating the need for manual spinning. Control is facilitated through a wired remote attached to the handlebar for convenient access.
Once installed using the included proprietary tool for security, you can enjoy reliable electric performance. While the PikaBoost 2 may not match the power output of many e-bikes with more robust motors, it offers commendable performance for its size and cost, delivering 500W of peak power or 100W of continuous power. The device can reach speeds of up to approximately 15 mph.

You can utilize it in various modes, including workout mode (adding resistance), eco mode (pedal-assist for hills), and cruise mode (steady power without pedaling).

Featuring a 158Wh battery, Livall claims the device offers a range of approximately 43 miles, though actual range may vary based on usage. An upgraded battery option with a 59-mile range is also available. When the battery runs out, simply detach and charge it without removing the entire device. The battery supports USB-PD 3.1 and QuickCharge 3.0, reaching full charge in three hours according to Livall.
While not the only e-bike conversion kit available, what sets the PikaBoost 2 apart is its easy installation and affordability. Livall anticipates mass production of the PikaBoost 2 to commence in late August, with units shipping from September. The device will be priced at $500 on the company’s website and will later be sold on Amazon, likely at a slightly higher cost.
