Open world sword-swinger Crimson Desert horse-powerslides to a late 2025 release

Crimson Desert made its grand entrance in 2020 with an impressive trailer at Gamescom 2023, showcasing a stunning medieval open world adventure. Featuring horses, fishing, plate armor, and heroic quests, one thing it was missing was a release date. Thanks to The Geoff Awards, that has now changed! Crimson Desert is set to release sometime in late 2025.

If you’re not familiar with the game, you take on the role of Kliff exploring the open world of Pywel. In this vast world, you will battle goblins and medieval characters, ride wyverns, engage in rock climbing, cooking, and maybe some puzzles. The game promises “aerial Abysses” for endless discovery. Early impressions from Alice Bee likened it to mid-series Assassin’s Creed games when things got a bit silly. Personally, I feel like it may be trying to do too much and could end up being a 6/10 experience, which surprisingly sounds quite appealing – more middling silliness is always welcome.

Our colleague James had the opportunity to test the game at this year’s Gamescom and was not overly impressed. While he found some spectacle in the combat-focused demo, he described the fighting as “twangy” and “unwieldy.” However, he did enjoy the exploration aspect, calling it “delightfully madcap,” which sounds intriguing.
