According to data from Amazon US, sales of Quest headsets during Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2024 were lower compared to the previous year, with approximately 146,000 units sold in 2024 as opposed to 170,000 units in 2023, marking a 14% decrease in sales volume. It’s important to note that these figures may not reflect sales from other retailers.
The drop in sales might come as a surprise considering Meta’s recent launch of the improved Quest 3S, a price reduction on the Quest 3, and the release of a flagship game featuring popular IP (Batman: Arkham Shadow) just in time for Black Friday.
During the 2023 holiday season, Meta was still selling the older Quest 2 headset, with the Black Friday deal offering the 128GB version for $250 with a $50 gift card, effectively making the headset only $200.
Contrastingly, this year’s deal featured the Quest 3S (128GB) model for $300 with a $75 gift card, totaling a $225 purchase.
While the Quest 3S offers better value for just a $25 difference in price, other factors such as overall economic conditions, competition deals, and shifting interest in VR technology play significant roles in consumer decisions.
Notably, the sales ratio between Quest 3S and Quest 3 during this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday was approximately 3:1, mirroring the ratio between Quest 2 and Quest 3 in 2023.
