The Vatican unveils official anime girl mascot

The Vatican has introduced a charming new anime girl mascot named Luce, with the aim of connecting with the emotions of younger generations.

Luce, meaning “Light” in Italian, is designed to lead young pilgrims towards hope and faith, as mentioned by the Catholic News Agency.

Created by Simone Legno, co-founder of tokidoki, Luce is accompanied by her dog Santino and friends Fe, Xin, and Sky. Their colorful raincoats and boots reflect a Sanrio-like design as they embark on their sacred journey. Archbishop Rino Fisichella describes the unique eye markings of Luce and her friends as “a symbol of the hope of the heart.”

Luce will make her first appearance at the Lucca Comics and Games convention in Italy, marking the Vatican’s inaugural participation in a comics convention. Additionally, Luce will represent the Holy See at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

In preparation for the upcoming Catholic jubilee, the Catholic Church is organizing various cultural events and initiatives.

The future plans for Luce and her friends in terms of merchandise and potential multimedia projects are currently undisclosed.
