Apple is known for its commitment to using in-house components in its products, and it seems that trend will continue in the coming years. Reports suggest that Apple will start incorporating its own Wi-Fi chips in the 2025 iPads and the iPhone 18 series in 2026. The iPhone SE 4 is also rumored to be the first iPhone to feature an Apple-branded 5G chip, with the iPhone 17 series expected to follow suit later in the same year.
By using their own network chips, Apple can streamline the supply chain and potentially avoid early issues with third-party components. Introducing the 5G chip in the iPhone SE 4 before the flagship devices allows Apple to test the technology before rolling it out to a wider audience.
However, integrating mmWave technology into the 5G chip poses a challenge for Apple, and they may need support from Qualcomm due to their existing chip deal. Broadcom also plays a significant role as Apple’s main supplier of Wi-Fi chips.
Meanwhile, Apple has just launched the iPhone 16 series worldwide, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The company also introduced updated versions of the iPad Pro and iPad Air earlier this year, with new iterations of the regular iPad and iPad mini expected to debut soon.
